The program chemoCR™ performs automated recognition of graphical chemical information. It is a highly customizable software package able to recognize images of chemical structures or even reactions. The tool also re-builds the structures and converts them into a computer-readable format such as SMILES or SDfiles.
It was developed at the Fraunhofer Institute for Algorithms and Scientific Computing (SCAI) in Sankt Augustin. The chemoCR™ program combines pattern recognition techniques with a chemical rule based expert system and can thus convert various image formats such as BMP, TIFF or PNG into common computer-readable structure representations. In the future this innovative solution will be enhanced and marketed jointly by InfoChem and Fraunhofer SCAI.
